Meet the team

The John Muir Trust is a charity dedicated to the experience, protection and repair of wild places across the UK. We are motivated by three key freedoms for wild places:

  • the freedom of people to enjoy wild places,
  • the freedom of nature to thrive, and
  • the freedom of communities to benefit.

This commitment is supported by three actions.

  1. We give wild places a voice by striving to demonstrate the best examples of land management – both in the places we look after, and through supporting communities and other land-owning organisations to do the same
  2. We aim to inspire people from all walks of life to engage and advocate for wild places, through volunteering, and education initiatives like the John Muir Award
  3. We work to show the value of wild places to decision makers, government, and society

“This is an opportunity to explore how we can bring investment and create income, jobs and potentially accommodation into the area, while taking steps to manage a wild place in a way that addresses the urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises through modern and exemplary land management.”

Kevin Lelland, Director of Development and Communications, John Muir Trust

The John Muir Trust has hired a team of independent consultation specialists to
gather ideas and comments from the local community. A series of consultation events will explore where the local community and the John Muir Trust can work together, to bring forward a plan that benefits everybody.
